52 Week Project: Week5 “Directional Light” {Laramie, WY Senior, Family, Child, Baby, Newborn, Maternity, Professional Business Portrait, Headshot, Pageant, Engagement, & Wedding Photographer. Also serving Cheyenne, Elk Mountain, Saratoga, Casper, Rawlins, Denver & Fort Collins}

This week really flew by and here we are again!  This time our theme was “directional light” and I love the slightly dramatic, moody feel you can bring to an image with this type of lighting pattern.

My seven year old was a willing model for me, finally!  I don’t have near as many photos of him simply because he has such an aversion to my camera.  My other two, they tolerate it and at times even seem to like it but not my Deuce!  About half the time I end up chucking out most if not all the pictures I get of him simply because he ends up angry and crying.  So I have learned just to give him space and not aim my lens at him.  Until recently when he complained that I don’t have many pictures of him.  Soooooo……very delicately I suggested he pose for me and this is the result.  Bless his sweet, camera-opposed, seven year old heart.

This boy has won my heart in so many ways. He is my firstborn and as such, reminds me of the day he was born and that amazing, slightly terrifying, bewildering feeling of love when you are entrusted with so great a gift and your life is changed forever. Once you become a mother, you are always a mother and though there are times that life with three little boys can be, let us say, slightly overwhelming, there is no way I would ever go back.  The journey is grand!!!

I can see the signs that things will change sometime in the near future but for now, this boy still likes to pick out Winnie-the-Pooh books, climb in my lap (and boy is he getting big and heavy!) and follow me around non-stop chattering about all his plans, ideas, and stories.  So very glad I nabbed these two shots and there is no doubt that I love the seven year old stage we are in right now!

  1. Love both of these. His expression is great in both of them and I love the second one, but the first one is my favorite! Great directional light!!

  2. Regina says:

    First thing that I would say that oooppsss I misunderstood the topic since I haven’t read Nic’s book yet. I should, I should… I interpreted the topic as direct light ^_^

    Nevertheless, I like your photos… Really nice!

  3. Oh, how did I not see this post sooner? So beautiful; your words and your photos! I completely understand not being able to get nice photos of the oldest. My nine year old girl has become so strange in front of the camera. She gets this weird sleepy eye look with a fake smile, no matter WHAT I try to do to get some real emotion out of her. My week 6 post was quite some work in that regard. That little half smirk in the first photo of your son just kills me, it’s adorable! <3!
